Now to recap from the beginning…

by S.C. Stephens

Goodreads Synopsis:

“For almost two years now, Kiera’s boyfriend, Denny, has been everything she’s ever wanted: loving, tender and endlessly devoted to her. When they head off to a new city to start their lives together, Denny at his dream job and Kiera at a top-notch university, everything seems perfect. Then an unforeseen obligation forces the happy couple apart.

Feeling lonely, confused, and in need of comfort, Kiera turns to an unexpected source—a local rock star named Kellan Kyle. At first, he’s purely a friend that she can lean on, but as her loneliness grows, so does their relationship. And then one night everything changes…and none of them will ever be the same.”

Holy hell, this book…Where do I begin?! I have never experienced such strong emotions over a book. ANGST, ANGER, FEAR, BETRAYAL, LOVE, ROMANCE, FRIENDSHIP- all key words to this story. It has it all. I could not put it down! I was literally glued to my iPad with butterflies in my stomach for two days straight while reading this. I was almost afraid of developing carpal tunnel from eagerly flipping through the 500+ detailed, enthralling and deliciously torturous pages of this novel!! Oh yeah, this one’s a long one, but it’s SO worth the read. Ladies, two words: Kellan Kyle. And he is DEFINITELY worth the read. Can you say guilty pleasure?! After falling for Kellan, you will be driving your significant other crazy, demanding they write you heartfelt love songs, get tattoos in your honor and buy you custom-made diamond jewelry. Kellan is a beautiful, tortured soul with a knack for giving meaningful, swoon-worthy gifts and sentiments. So, sorry guys, you have some serious competition here!

Before meeting Kiera, Kellan spent his life looking for love in all the wrong places…these lyrics totally popped in my head when thinking of Kellan:

I was looking for love in all the wrong places
Looking for love in too many faces
Searching your eyes, looking for traces
Of what.. I’m dreaming of…
Hopin’ to find a friend and a lover
God bless the day I discover
Another heart, lookin’ for love

-“Lookin’ for Love,” by Johny Lee

Now, I know some of you may not be fans of cheating in books, but S.C. Stephens has a way of writing it so that it all somehow works. Also, I know people who have read this novel take issue with the main character, Kiera, for her indecisiveness, however, with the detail and insight the author gives you into the situation and her thoughts on it, I felt I was able to at least understand it. I give a lot of credit to authors who write stories that are not so politically correct and this author definitely takes some chances that make it a very enticing read.

“I’ve never wanted anyone, like I want you. Every girl is you to me. You’re all I see…you’re all I want.” -S.C. Stephens, Thoughtless

This book is about making choices and having faith in those choices. It’s about friendships and relationships and the thin line between trust and betrayal. This book isn’t just about following what your heart wants, it’s about figuring out what to do when your heart wants two conflicting things. Safety or passion? Comfort or taking chances? What do you do then? Well, you have to read and find out!

Goodreads Synopsis:

“After being caught in the middle of a love triangle which led to a devastating betrayal, Kiera pledged to learn from the mistakes she’d made. She was determined to never again inflict that kind of pain on anyone, especially the soulful, talented man who held her heart. But life offers new challenges for every relationship, and when Kiera’s love is put to the ultimate test, will it survive? Love is easy . . . trust is hard.”

I have to admit, this book started out pretty slow for me and lost some steam. I mean, don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of steamy love scenes, but I felt like the story could have progressed a little faster. I was also hoping Kiera would come into her own a little bit more and stop suffering from what I like to call “The Bella Swan Syndrome,” where the heroin just can’t seem to wrap her head around why this beautiful and perfect man loves her. Girl, if you’ve got Kellan Kyle fawning over you like you’re the best thing since shrimp n’ grits, don’t ask questions, just GO with it! In this book, you get to learn more about Kiera’s sister, Anna, and her relationship with the hilariously uncouth Griffin, more about Kellan’s past and the interesting way the aftermath of the Kellan-Kiera-Denny messy love triangle plays out. Let me just say now, hands down, Denny is a saint! Kiera and Kellan go through many epic miscommunications and trials in this book as they learn how to trust each other.

“Loving you, Kellan, is so easy, it’s effortless.” His smile matched mine, then I frowned and sighed “Trusting you…that’s the hard part.” -S.C. Stephens, Effortless

The book wraps up in such a beautiful, heartwarming and complete way that you will be bawling your eyes out. Well, at least I did.  XO, J

by S.C. Stephens

Goodreads Synopsis:

“When the band hits it big, Kiera and Kellan must ask themselves: Can their love for each other survive the constant pressures of superstardom? The friendships they’ve formed, the new family they’ve found, and the history they’ve forged will all play a part in helping them navigate the turbulent waters of the band’s exploding popularity. A greedy executive hell-bent on success, a declining pop star looking for an edge, and a media circus that twists lies into truths are just some of the obstacles the lovers will have to overcome if they are going to remain together. Fame comes with a price-but will it cost Kiera and Kellan everything?”

Ok guys, I’ll admit, I was one of those crazy people who could not wait until March 5 to get my hands on a copy of Reckless. I definitely went to my local Barnes & Noble and had the lovely woman at the front desk climb ladders and scour the back room for a paperback then proceeded to spend 10 hours straight getting my fill of Mr. sex-on-a-stick himself, Kellan Kyle. It was totally worth it!  S.C. Stephens does not disappoint in the last installment of the Thoughtless series.  While I don’t want to spoil anything for all of you who were more patient than I was, I will say that Reckless is the best book in the series.  This book is about the importance of honesty and trust and having faith in a relationship even when outside forces are so desperately trying to destroy it.

Kellan and Kiera both grow as individuals and as a couple in Reckless.  It’s really amazing to experience the love and passion these two share throughout the pages of this book, but their love is tested and they are pushed to the limit when some intense situations arise due to Kellan’s career as a rock star. This leaves them questioning: is love really enough?  I promise there are A LOT of swoon-worthy moments with Kellan (and even Griffin… yep, you read that right)!  Kiera finally starts to see herself as someone worthy of Kellan’s love and I really enjoyed watching her transform into a confident, independent woman.

“He would always want me near him. I would always be first in his eyes. We were a good match. A perfect match. Soul mates. Passion, friendship, love, loyalty, trust…if you found the right person…you really could have it all.” -S.C. Stephens, Reckless

It also amazed me how S.C. Stephens gave me such a strong connection with her secondary characters. They made the story feel more real and more complete for me. Anna, Denny, Jenny, and The D-bags are such an incredible support system and family unit for Kellan and Kiera and the two as a couple could not be more amazing. The bond they all share is truly something special, especially the one between Kiera and Kellan themselves. Thank you to Ms. Stephens for wrapping up this series so beautifully, and leaving me with a tear-soaked smile on my face.   XO, R

ecardKellanAbout the author:

S.C. Stephens is an independent author who enjoys spending every free moment she has creating stories that are packed with emotion and heavy on romance.

Her first attempt at a full-length novel was Thoughtless. She wrote the angst-filled love triangle in early 2009 and published it that summer on FictionPress. Amazed and surprised by the response, more stories were quick to follow.

Conversion, the first novel in a three story vampire series, was released in the fall. Collision Course, a tragic, yet hopeful tale of love and loss was released in early 2010. The second Conversion novel came out next, along with It’s All Relative, a different take on a one night stand story.

In addition to writing, Stephens enjoys reading other people’s fabulous novels, loading up her iPod with writer’s block reducing music, heading out to the movie theaters, and spending quality time with her children.
